More and more countries around the world are seeking to implement new and innovative methods to generate clean and sustainable energy. Now a country in the European Union is looking to convert former military land into large parks covered with solar panels, surprising everyone with this new sustainable and environmentally friendly proposal.

France bets once again on the application of solar panels

For some time now, different countries around the world have been seeking to achieve energy sustainability through a broad portfolio of projects aimed at the implementation of sustainable energy. In this way, the old ways of generating energy from fossil fuels would be forgotten and a more environmentally friendly approach would be chosen.

It is important to remember that, during the last time we have been seeing innovative and promising projects that promise to make energy generation more sustainable and sustainable. Now France surprised with a flattering proposal of photovoltaic energy, a project that would be aimed at generating large amounts of electricity that contribute to strengthen the country’s demand.

It was specifically the BayWa company that got down to work and implemented a large photovoltaic energy field in two former military bases. These two plants together would provide a combined power capacity of 136 megawatts (MWp), according to the information provided by the aforementioned company.

Find out all the details of this innovative photovoltaic project

To begin with, it is important to mention that the promising energy project carried out in France occupies a total area of 151 hectares, the same that would be occupied by a total of five installations of solar panel parks. The sum total of these parks has around 300,000 solar panels.

In concrete terms, we would be talking about yet another achievement in the reconversion of areas that are not being used, that is to say, with projects of this type we would be giving a new, more sustainable and ecological purpose to these wastelands.

It is also important to mention that the land in question has been cautiously cleared of mines and is currently ready for sheep farming, so these large photovoltaic plants will share space with this sheep farm, giving more than one use to the area and making the most of it.

How much energy capacity does this field of solar panels have?

The large power plants would produce a total of 82 gigawatt hours (GWh) each annually. To put it in other words, we can conclude that this amount of electricity is equivalent to the domestic consumption of 38,000 citizens.

It is important to mention that, the Blueberry solar park is in operation since 2021, with a capacity of 30 MWp. The Greenberry solar farm, on the other hand, is the one that has recently started operating and would have a total capacity of 40 MWp. Meanwhile, the remaining three parks are located at the Fontenet military base, these three combined bring together a total of 66 MWp of clean and sustainable energy.

France’s initiative to convert former military land into solar parks represents an important step towards a more sustainable future. This innovative project not only maximizes the use of wasteland by converting it for clean energy generation, but also integrates sustainable agricultural practices, such as sheep farming. This could be a great example to follow for other countries seeking to achieve energy sustainability.
