Eligible New Yorkers will receive up to $5,108 today. With the holiday season upon us, ensuring that you receive all payments you are entitled to promptly is more critical than ever, with families and households often needing to cover extra expenses at this time of the year. For Social Security recipients, whose only source of income is often their benefits, these payments are more important than ever at this time of the year to ensure they can continue to afford all necessary expenses.

Receive your payments from the SSA in time for Christmas

The Social Security Administration (SSA) distributes approximately 75 million payments every month for its beneficiaries, with the majority of these payments for retirees. Due to the magnitude of payments that must be distributed every month, it is important that the SSA follows a strict payment schedule to ensure that all payments reach beneficiaries on time.

The general SSA payment schedule is ordered as follows:

  • The second Wednesday of the month: recipients with a birthdate between the first and the tenth of any given month.
  • The third Wednesday of the month: recipients with a birthdate between the eleventh and twentieth of any given month.
  • The fourth Wednesday of the month: recipients with a birthdate between the twenty-first and the thirty-first of any given month.

However, if you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the SSA, these payments are always made on the first of any given month. If you receive Retirement benefits on top of SSI benefits, your Retirement benefits will then be paid on the third of the month as opposed to following the general payment structure. With this time of the year seeing a variety of federal holidays occurring, including Christmas and New Year’s Day, it is important to confirm when your next payment date will be according to the SSA payment schedule as your payment may be advanced if the usual anticipated payment date falls on a holiday.

If you are a New York resident, this month could see a variety of payments coming your way from both local and federal authorities. For those New Yorkers who are SSA recipients, some will be paid as much as $5,108, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria. This payment is set to go out today, November 19, 2025, for those beneficiaries who have a birthdate between the eleventh and twentieth of the month.

To receive the full $5,108 payment, however, you need to meet the following additional eligibility criteria:

  • You must have earned an income for at least 35 years.
  • Of those 35 working years, you must have earned above the maximum SSA income limit, subject to SSA taxes.
  • You must have waited to delay claiming your benefits until you were 70 years old.

Additional payments for these New Yorkers this month

On top of these SSA payments, which are distributed every month across the country, payments specific to New Yorkers include a variety of new one-time payment initiatives that will continue to be distributed throughout this month, such as the new inflation rebate payment worth up to $400. In addition to these new initiatives, this time of the year is also when well-established payment and rebate programs send out their payments to eligible New Yorkers.

The School Tax Relief Program (STAR) is one such rebate program that occurs annually and sees millions of New Yorkers receive tax relief in the form of property rebate payments. However, there are specific income limits you must meet in order to be eligible for the program, as well as your rebate amount is dependent on whether or not you are a senior citizen or not. Additionally, the property must be your primary residence to qualify for the rebate.
