energy, turquoise hydrogen

Humanity has just made what could be the worst mistake in its history (and we have already seen many others on previous occasions). We have just learned that a group of experts is going to produce a new energy with the most dangerous gas in history. It is turquoise, and we could use it in cars with impressive thermal efficiency and, best of all, with zero emissions.

This is the most dangerous gas on the planet: does it have any benefitial application?

Methane, which is known as the most dangerous gas in the world, has been discovered to be a great emitter of greenhouse gases for quite sometime. Nevertheless, a new development in bringing turquoise hydrogen has the potential to mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases from natural gas and to potentially diversify the sources.

Unlike most contemporary methods that create clean hydrogen and CO2, this new process generates pure hydrogen alongside solid carbon, which would appeal to areas without storage facilities. Turquoise hydrogen can be generated by breaking down methane in a process called pyrolysis, done without oxygen and without water-

This method is unique nonlinear directions of other procedures used for the hydrogen production for example, steam methane reforming, which causes emissions of CO2. The other process that is involved in the extraction of copper is the turquoise process that does not have any impact on the emission of carbon dioxide.

This is the energy of the future: it´s turquoise, renewable and non-polluting

But, turquoise hydrogen is not just an idea, it is already in the phase of development and monetization and one of the companies building it is C-Zero which is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and some of the investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures backed by Bill gates among others.

The process is a technique by c-Zero that has been established by Eric McFarland, who is a chemical engineering professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and it has been shown that it is likely to share its discoveries in early 2024.

America will produce million tons of turquoise hydrogen: new fuel, new source of energy

The technological platform the company has developed for clean hydrogen generation is expected to be scalable and generating 400 kg of hydrogen per day. But, what are the advantages of hydrogen turquoise or, what is the same, why we´re not talking about green or blue ones?

  • Firstly, this does not generate any CO2 emissions, and thus can be viewed as an ideal solution for a number of regions that may not have the necessary facilities for CO2 storage.
  • Secondly, the process utilizes natural gas as feed, which is an abundant source of energy and is one of the fossil fuels.
  • This not only makes the utilization the CO2 in terms of storage and transportation cheaper than building new infrastructures to transport and store CO2.

These applications also mean that pure carbon might new markets for spar could be created through turquoise hydrogen too. It is crucial for its high-value applications either in the form of anodes, graphite or as the sorbent material attained in the course of the pyrolysis process.

Despite the advantages turquoise hydrogen brings to the table, there are issues to consider as well. There is one of the main technical issues namely the practical application of solid carbon obtained during the pyrolysis stage. This entails submerging the material into a bath that is containing molten metal or salt to enable easier floating.

As you can see, this new turquoise hydrogen is going to mark a historic milestone in energy generation, not only because of its method of production, but also because of the CO2 we will save the planet. Capture projects like this one are bringing hope to many countries such as in America, where we are innovating more and more (in Iceland they even turn it into rock).
