Vortex devices are simple in concept and easy to manufacture, install and operate. They have a fixed base and a freely oscillating cylindrical mast “perpendicular to the wind direction, held together by a carbon rod,” they state on their website. The inner parts of the device do not collide with each other. On the contrary, they interact to produce electricity.
Its operation is quite similar to a traditional alternator. It interacts with coils and magnetic fields, producing electricity by electromagnetic induction, but does not require rotation on an axis. The magnets also work as a “tuning system”, changing the apparent constant elasticity of the mast, and extending the range of wind speeds in which the oscillation is generated.
